27 Nakshatras Explained

In Vedic astrology, the zodiac of 360 degrees is divided into 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions), each spanning 13 degrees 20 minutes. Your birth nakshatra - determined by the Moon at your birth - reveals your deepest nature, tendencies and life purpose.

The 27 Nakshatras

Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira, Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Moola, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. Each is ruled by one of the 9 planets.

Nakshatra Lords

The 27 nakshatras are grouped under 9 planetary lords in a repeating cycle - Ketu (Ashwini, Magha, Moola), Venus (Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha), Sun (Krittika, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha), Moon (Rohini, Hasta, Shravana), Mars (Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishta), Rahu (Ardra, Swati, Shatabhisha), Jupiter (Punarvasu, Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada), Saturn (Pushya, Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada) and Mercury (Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati).

Why Nakshatras Matter

Nakshatras are used for muhurat selection (electional astrology), kundli matching (Ashtakoot system), and deep personality analysis. Each nakshatra has a symbol - like a horse, arrow, or fish - that encodes its core energy.
